Aussie boy found dead after playing in floods

An 11-year-old boy has been found dead after he went missing while playing in floodwaters in Wollongong, New South Wales.

Ryan Teasdale was last seen riding a bodyboard with about 20 other people during a torrential downpour in Riley Park, Unanderra on Thursday afternoon.

His body was found after 11am on Friday at a creek bed at the end of a stormwater drain after emergency services spent the morning searching frantically.

"It's with great sadness that I tell you that we have located the body of a young boy in a creek bed at the end of a stormwater drain in Unanderra," Superintendent Zoran Dzevlan, Lake Illawarra Local Area Commander, said.

"The family of the boy have been informed."

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
