A mother has been arrested after she left her kids at home in Johnston, Iowa while she went on a trip to Germany.
Johnston police said Erin Lee Macke, 30, was charged with four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21.
Police were called to the house after receiving reports of young children left to fend for themselves without adult supervision.
When they arrived they discovered Macke's children were indeed completely unsupervised. One was aged six; another was seven and the remaining two children were 12 years old.
Police discovered upon further investigation Macke left the country on September 20, and had no intention to return until October 1 - nearly two weeks later.
According to police no arrangements were made for the children to be taken care of while she was out of the country.
Ms Macke was arrested on her return and remained in jail with no bond. Her children were currently in the care of family members.
