A rare white tiger has been mauled to death by a pack of big cats, after straying into the wrong enclosure at an Indian zoo.
It is believed a zookeeper at Bannerghatta Biological Park mistakenly left an adjoining door open on Sunday (local time), allowing two white tigers - Amar and Shreyas - into the Bengal tiger enclosure.
Zoo staff tooted car horns and yelled at the tigers in a desperate attempt to scare them apart, but nine-year-old Shreyas was brutally attacked by the Bengals and died on Wednesday.
Amar sustained injuries to his jaw and paw, but managed to escape the enclosure and survive.
Principal chief government forest conservator C Jarayam said an investigation had been launched.
He said both Bengal tigers have been treated for their wounds and are doing well.
