A judge in Texas told a jury to find an accused sex trafficker not guilty after getting a tipoff from none other than "God".

Judge Jack Robinson apologised for the interruption, local media reported, but said "when God tells me I gotta do something, I gotta do it".

Judge Robinson recused himself from the trial after passing on God's word. The defence asked for a mistrial, but the replacement judge allowed the jury to resume deliberating.

The jury didn't believe Judge Robinson nor his deity, sentencing the woman to 25 years in prison.

Judge Robinson didn't respond to requests for comment.
