One dead in New York Trump Tower fire

A 67-year-old man has died in a fire that erupted at Trump Tower in New York City.

Six others were injured in the fire, which began in the Fifth Avenue high-rise just before 6pm on Saturday (local time).

Witnesses reported a rapidly expanding blaze on the 50th floor of the Manhattan tower.

US President Donald Trump tweeted when the fire was put out.

"Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!"

A witness reported that 21 fire trucks attended the scene. About 200 fire personnel responded to the incident.

The Secret Service entered the building to check on Mr Trump's residence on the 66th floor. None of his family were there.

Three people were injured in a heating and air conditioning system fire at the tower in January.
