Investigations are underway into the death of an inmate at the troubled Mt Eden Correctional facility.
According to Fairfax Media, the man died in hospital while in custody on Monday.
Mt Eden Prison director Dennis Goodin confirmed the death with Fairfax, but wouldn't say what the inmate had died of.
The prison inspectorate is reviewing the death and has referred it to the coroner.
Currently, the death of another inmate, Nick Evans, is also being investigated. He died earlier in June after becoming ill in his cell.
It was later found that he had contracted the superbug MRSA after battling with pneumonia and a ruptured lung.
Earlier this month it was announced that Serco's contract for the correctional facility will not be renewed when it ends in 2017.
