Auckland central bus services are about to undergo a number of changes ahead of construction work on the much-awaited City Rail Link (CRL).

Auckland Transport says all of the buses that currently use Albert St, Lower Queen St, Tyler St and Galway St will be relocated to other roads in the city centre.

This will mean road closures, relocating parking, taxi stands and loading zones, while creating new bus lanes and bus stops.

Construction will begin on Sunday, affecting Albert St and lower Queen St the most.

"Some parts of the downtown area are being closed off so we have to move some buses," says AT Metro bus services manager Brendon Main.

"The CRL is the biggest construction programme ever in the central city so there will be some disruption during the construction phase."

Mr Main says AT ambassadors will be at the stops to help.
