Baby murder-accused remanded in custody

A man accused of killing a three-month-old baby in Tauranga has been remanded in custody, following an appearance in court on Wednesday morning.

The 22-year-old has been charged with the murder of Richard Uddin, who died in Tauranga Hospital on June 7 after he was brought in by his mother.

He also faces seven additional charges of assault on a child.

The accused, who has name suppression, will reappear in court in July via videolink.

The Ministry of Social Development and police have said they are working with the family to ensure the safety of their other children.
