A man who lost nearly $1 million when a finance company collapsed is angry one of its former bosses has been granted parole after serving less than half his time in jail.

Robert Roest, 58, has served three years for fraud-related charges after Bridgecorp went under in 2007 owing $459 million.

Rex Warren from Katikati is one of more than 14,000 out-of-pocket investors, and says Roest got off lightly.

"The people that were convicted should spend the rest of their lives paying back whatever amount can be taken from them."

Mr Warren says he had to work an extra five years to make up for his loss.
