Earthquake Minister Gerry Brownlee is astounded at the lack of progress made in repairing quake-damaged social housing units by the Christchurch City Council.
EQC paid the council $21 million last year to start work on the over 450 houses closed by the quakes – but only five have been repaired.
Mr Brownlee says this is a performance issue and it needs to be resolved fast.
“I met with [the council] in October and was given an assurance at that time that they had made this a priority. It doesn’t look like they have,” he says.
The Minister says he will be questioning the council on why the repair programme is moving so slow.
