A man in Christchurch has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving causing injury after his speeding vehicle missed a corner, became airborne and landed in the Avon River.
The driver sat on the car's roof chatting to onlookers after the accident as a trapped passenger desperately tried to free himself.
The trapped man was eventually freed by emergency services.
The driver will appear in court on Thursday.
