Christchurch CTV building investigation nearing end

Police say the investigation into the catastrophic collapse of the Christchurch CTV building is nearing its final stages.

One-hundred-and-eighteen people were killed when the office block pancaked in the 2011 earthquake - and the outcome of the investigation will determine whether anyone should be held criminally culpable.

Critical elements of the building structure have been physically re-built and tested, and next week specialist engineers will be at the site examining the foundations. This includes the south wall and parts of the north wall of where the building stood.

Contractors will begin work on Monday dig eight test pits/trenches to allow soil specialists and engineers to examine the soil and foundations.

Police won't say when a final decision on charges will be made, but indicated it would be later this year and the families of the victims would be informed first.
