Christchurch Forsyth Barr building for sale

One of Christchurch's last standing central city high rises is up sale.

The 17-storey Forsyth Barr building was severely damaged in the February 2011 earthquake and office workers were forced to abseil down the face of the building.

The owners have finally settled their insurance claim.

Colliers International general manager Jonathan Lyttle says there's already been considerable interest for the building which will be sold on a "as is, where is" basis.

"The majority of interest is in the existing structure, the engineers tell us it is repairable to 100 percent of NBS and as such everyone's looking at retaining and refurbishing."

The Crown may end up buying it as it would be part of the Performing Arts Precinct.
