A Christchurch masseur accused of indecently assaulting four female clients during mall massages may defend the accusations.

Cunbin Zhang, 58, is charged with indecently assaulting a female client on December 7. However, three more women have come forward since the charges were laid.

Zhang was granted a register’s remand today and was not required to appear before a judge at the Christchurch District Court. He has elected a trial and looks set to defend the accusations.

Police labelled the alleged assaults “disturbing” and have encouraged any other potential victims to contact them.

"The fact that additional women have come forward indicates a disturbing pattern of behaviour," Detective Damon Wells told NZ Newswire.

Zhang has been remanded on bail until February 15, while a judge considers police evidence on the case.
