'Complex' investigation into Taupo woman's death

Police investigating the death of a Taupo woman, who passed away after her breathing machine stopped working in a power cut, say it may be some time before they know if any charges can be laid.

Fai Deane, who is in her 50s, was found unresponsive at her Rifle Range flat last month by her flatmate. She had recently been released from hospital, and had been issued the breathing machine to assist her.

Now Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Cranshaw, says a number of police inquiries have been made into Ms Deane's medical background and the actions of a driver who crashed into a power pole prior to her death.

He says the investigation has been complex, and there are a number of aspects that need to be covered by police before the exact cause of Ms Deane's death can be known.

"Until those inquiries are completed, we won't be in a position to determine what, if any, further Police action may follow," he says.

The power was off for around four hours, and was restored at 7:20am.
