A 21-year-old Cromwell man appeared in the Queenstown District Court on Thursday in relation to the importation of a class B drug.

Police say they intercepted more than $200,000 worth of drugs being taken to Clyde. The drugs are being tested but police believe it's MDMA (Ecstasy).

Four packages were stopped by police. They're believed to be imported from Poland and were destined for an unoccupied property in Clyde.

Each package contained at least 125g of drugs.

It is the second arrest in recent times in the Otago Lakes-Central area for the importation of illegal drugs.

Police say they hope it acts as a deterrent for those trying to import or use illicit substances.
