Every year the SPCA needs to raise $20 million to keep frontline services open.

This year two of the world famous driving dogs trained to drive mini cars will be digging deep - quite literally - to help with its annual appeal.

CEO Christine Kalin says the SPCA rescues animals in need, rehabilitates and rehomes them – and that isn't cheap.

Firstline's Alex O'Hara reports from Auckland's Kohimarama Beach, giving them a helping hand.
