Fire crews in the Hutt Valley have managed to contain two large scrub blazes.

The blazes started yesterday afternoon near Park St in Upper Hutt and rural fire spokesman Rick Sloman says heavy resources are being brought in.

"[At] 6:30am crews will be assembling and we will be bringing in aircraft back in to a new, a fairly aggressive ground and air attack," he says.

Around 50 firefighters are working, with 10 appliances and three helicopters, to put out the blaze.

The fire has left one firefighter with minor burns.

Crews were called to the blaze at around 3:30pm yesterday, close to the popular Maidstone Park sports fields.

A second fire flared up in the evening at around 7:15pm, which was creeping up the hill.

Conditions tonight mean the fire could spread easily, and firefighters are battling the two-hectare fire in difficult terrain.
