Fish & Game believes most responsible duck hunters would be shocked carcasses have been dumped and left to rot.
Dozens of dead ducks were found last week at a glade in Whakatane and on a beach in Timaru.
Don Rood from Fish & Game says it doesn't take much effort to dispose of them in the right way.
"The correct procedure is to bury them – it doesn't take much to dig a hole and put the carcasses in them," he told RadioLIVE this morning.
"That's far better from both the public relations aspect, and it's far better for the environment."
He says anyone with information about the culprits should contact Fish & Game.
