Govt urged to fund rape crisis hotline

There are calls for the Government to resolve funding issues for Auckland's only 24-hour rape crisis hotline after it announced it's having to cut services.

Specialist sexual abuse agency HELP is laying off staff, despite an earlier Government promise to provide financial assistance.

The Green Party's Jan Logie says the services the agency provides are potentially life-saving.

"The middle of the night is a time of particular vulnerability, and a time when people really need to be able to have somebody to reach out to.

"That's a very, very significant loss to the Auckland community."

HELP says it needs less than $150,000 dollars to continue operating.
