A woman who claims she was raped by a young cricketer says she rejected his approaches to have sex a number of times.

Northern Districts player Scott Kuggeleijn, 24, is alleged to have carried out the act after a night out in Hamilton last year.

Kuggeleijn and the complainant, 21, were first introduced to each other at a birthday party where they'd been drinking, before catching a taxi together into town.

Once they arrived the pair spent time in a bar, where CCTV footage presented to the jury showed them kissing in a hallway.

Giving evidence today, the complainant said she was very intoxicated and fell asleep in a toilet cubicle.

The pair caught a taxi to the complainant's home, where they went to bed and began kissing and touching.

The woman says she rejected Kuggeleijn's approaches to have sex a number of times and they went to sleep.

In the morning the defendant began kissing and touching again - the complainant says she rejected further approaches, before Kuggeleijn allegedly held her hands above her head and raped her.

The case hinges on the issue of consent.

The Crown argues it was made repeatedly clear that the complainant didn't want to have sex, while the defence says consent was given.

The Crown is expected to call eight witnesses during the four-day trial, before a jury of eight men and four women.
