An ice cream-loving hedgehog has lived to see another day after being rescued by police with a McFlurry container stuck on his head.
The hedgehog was wandering blind on the streets of Richmond, south of Nelson, narrowly avoiding traffic.
He was picked up by police and moved to the safety of nearby grass, shortly before a truck came past.
"Another life saved: A patrol found this guy wandering blind on the road in Richmond. Safely in the grass just before a truck came by!" Nelson Police wrote on their Facebook page.
More than 2500 people have 'liked' the photo since it was posted.
