Fans of the Ice Age movies will soon be able to see their favourite characters in the flesh when Ice Age Live tours the country next year.

Tickets will go on sale next Tuesday for the show in May.

The show will feature ice-skating, aerial arts, puppetry and film and also acrobatics performed by athletes.

The show is produced by Stage Entertainment Touring Productions and is co-directed by Guy Caron from the Cirque du Soleil productions.

Although it will feature all the main characters, including Sid, Diego, Mammoth Manny and Scrat the squirrel, co-director Michael Curry says the real stars of the show are the performers.

"There would be no show without the performers. They are the heart and energy of the spectacle.

"Casting these amazing performers is a challenge because literally some of them have to be experts in skating, dancing, puppeteers and technical circus. The dedication of these performers is one of the highlights," he says.

"Logistically and organisationally this is a huge achievement. Ice Age Live! Is one of the world's greatest touring ice skating family shows and it will bring a new level of truly spectacular entertainment to New Zealand," says MediaWorks group CEO Mark Weldon.

Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure will be on tour in Auckland May 12-15, Wellington May 19-22 and Hamilton May 26-29.
