A portrait of former Whanganui mayor Michael Laws has sold for more than $700 on TradeMe.
The artist who painted the black and white piece says he tried to sell it twice before without success and he is blown away by the attention it has had.
Josh Drummond originally created the work for a charity auction with a theme of free speech.
"It's an odd partnership. I kind of owe him one, really. If he's ever in Hamilton I hope he'll drop me a line and we'll go for a beer and hopefully not get into any major strife."
The auction's page attracted more than 7000 views and the successful bidder, from Wellington, paid $705 for the work.
