A man is in hospital in a critical condition after what police describe as a "vicious, seemingly unprovoked assault" in central Havelock North.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and left the victim semi-conscious and bleeding, with facial injuries.
Police are searching for two men in connection with the attack, which took place near the clock tower, in central Havelock North.
The men were seen running in the direction of Porter Dr and police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the men in the area.
