A man in his 30s has died after being shot in the south Auckland suburb of Manurewa.

Police were called to an address on Winsford St around 7:15am on Saturday after receiving reports that the man had been shot in the stomach.

However, despite ambulance staff treating the man for his wound, he died just before 8:30am.

Newshub cameran Tim Raethel said the scene was "quite heated" immediately after the attack, with police dealing with "quite visibly upset" family members.

Neighbours reportedly littered the streets, with many approaching the officers present to find out what was going on.

Mr Raethel said there were a large number of police cars and ambulances outside the property.

The offender is being searched for by armed police and is believed to have made off in a vehicle.

It's not known if anyone else was in the property at the time of the shooting, or if the incident is gang-related.
