A man has been rushed to hospital by helicopter after the truck he was a passenger in rolled down an embankment in the Waikato.

The truck left the road in Pukeatua earlier this evening before careening four metres down a hill and coming to a rest on its side.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched because of the poor weather conditions and remote location of the crash.

The 38-year-old was flown to Waikato Hospital, and is believed to have spinal injuries and cuts on the back of his head.

It is not known what condition the driver is in.
