A man has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after being found lying in Victoria Park in central Auckland this morning.
Police say he has life-threatening head injuries.
"Police and ambulance were called to a man who was found unconscious but breathing in the scene behind us [Victoria Park]," Detective Sergeant Kevin Blackman said. "Ambulance worked on him at the scene, he had apparent facial and head injuries and he was taken through to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition."
Ambulance spokesperson Robbie Walker said the man is between 30-35 years-old.
Police say the man may have been assaulted sometime last night and he was found by council workers at 8am who had come do garden work.
