Another person has escaped their ankle bracelet and is wanted by police for burglary and stealing vehicles.

Michael Raymond Norton cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet about a month ago, and is believed to be in the Christchurch area. Police also want to speak to Norton about a number of other incidences in the region.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact Christchurch Central Police on (03) 363 7400 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Electronic monitoring has been in the spotlight recently with a series of high profile incidents. Blessie Gotingco's killer had an electronic bracelet on, yet he planned her rape and murder while authorities could see his movements. Child sex offender Daniel Livingstone was on the run for 24-hours after he cut his bracelet off.

Corrections introduced new bracelets on June 15 which Minister Judith Collins called uncuttable. However, Story exposed that a cheap pair of scissors was all offenders needed to get these monitoring devices off and head on the run.
