Mark Lundy will appeal his conviction and sentence for murdering his wife and daughter.

Lundy was found guilty for the second time of killing his wife Christine and daughter Amber in a jury trial at the Wellington High Court which concluded at the start of April.

The pair were killed in their Palmerston North home in August 2000.

This afternoon, Lundy's lawyer Julie-Anne Kincade confirmed the appeal.

The two-month trial saw more than 140 Crown and defence witnesses give evidence, with Lundy sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum non-parole period of 20 years.

But that sentence took into account his already around 13 years served. He was returned to prison to serve the remainder of the non-parole period.
Ms Kincade said it was not appropriate to discuss the grounds of appeal, but it would include consideration of the admissibility of some scientific evidence.

She would not comment further.

He was first convicted of the murders after a jury trial in 2002, but a retrial was set down following the Privy Council quashing his convictions in 2013 with questions around scientific evidence.
