More controversial comments caught on tape

The controversial and damaging secret tape recordings from National's annual conference have made a return to the election campaign and once again National's Bill English is the target.

3 News has obtained another exclusive secret recording of English where he suggests that it is about winning at all costs "despite national's highly principled statements."

Bill English was out selling National's tax cuts  - but it's the return of the secret tapes that had 3 News approaching him today.

A number of National MPs were secretly taped at their conference in August, English saying he would eventually sell Kiwibank - he later apologised.

Last night 3 News was sent another tape from the same cocktail do.

English suggesting that winning is everything despite National's highly principled statements - he suggests you target a few and do what you need to in order to win.

“Winning is everything my man,” he said in the tape.

English is dismissing the tape but when asked what he meant when he said "despite the highly principled statements" - he did not want to answer.

Obviously the return of the tapes is music to Helen Clark's ears and she has pounced, calling English cynical.

But National says Labour is behind it, something Helen Calrk denies.
