New Zealand businesses and members of the public are being targeted by a new invoice scam that impersonates real companies.
NetSafe has highlighted the risk in a tweet this afternoon where payment is being demanded in Australian dollars.
One example uses an email address with "Xero" in it, like accounting software firm Xero, and asks for payment of AU$5201.75.
NetSafe says it's seeing an increase in reports of this kind of email scam.
Both businesses and individuals have reported invoices from companies they have never dealt with.
NetSafe is warning businesses to ensure they have clearly defined processes for verifying and paying accounts.
