Not the first time in the spotlight for Black Caps crowd dancer

The images of his dance during the Black Caps' cricket match against Australia last night moves were broadcast around the world and sent Twitter in to overdrive.

But you may be surprised to hear that the star of a video isn’t the slightest bit hung over today.

Andrew James told Newshub that contrary to what was being said on Twitter, he wasn’t drunk.

"I’d only had a couple of beers actually. And I had a nap in between innings, so the energy was ready to spike."

Mr James is no stranger to dancing – or being laughed at on the internet.

He works as one of the mascots for the Breakers basketball team and has previously worked as a chicken for the Otago Highlanders.

Last year an Australian broadcaster called Mr James the "best dancer in New Zealand" and posted this video of him at Eden Park:

His closest friends are a bit sick of seeing him pop up on the television during sports games, but if Mr James has his way they’ll be seeing a lot more of him.

He’s been working on a pilot for a sports chat show which he hopes will kick off a career in broadcasting.

He said he spent the entire second innings dancing, being egged on by the crowd around him.

"I’m a Hamilton boy originally, so I had to be there for McCullum’s last game, and the atmosphere was amazing!"
