Nearly 50 percent of all interactions between the public and Government agencies are done online - an increase of nearly a third since 2012.

The biggest growth area has been online birth registrations, which is used by around 75 percent of customers.

Internal Affairs Minister Peter Dunne says its great progress, but admits the internet's not everyone's cup of tea.

"We're going to have to keep ensuring those services that can't be provided to some people online are able to still be provided in a manual way which meets their needs."

The Government's online ID service RealMe only has 50,000 registered users.
