Paeroa stabbing: Man charged, victim in hospital

A man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following a stabbing in Paeroa on Friday night.

Officers were called to a fight between a small group of people on Bush St at about 11pm, where they found a 43-year-old man with several stab wounds.

The victim was flown to Waikato Hospital, and is in a serious but stable condition. His injuries include a punctured lung.

The alleged offender was arrested a short distance away, and has been cooperating with police.

Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson said he was "pleased that the man was apprehended without causing further harm to himself or anyone else".

The man who was arrested will reappear in court on Tuesday.
