Police are trying to work out why a car in Lower Hutt was shot at early Thursday morning, and by whom.
Emergency services were called to George St in Stokes Valley around 2am after reports a firearm had been used on a parked car.
Officers and a police dog unit arrived shortly after and found the empty car which appeared to have been shot once, leaving a large hole in the driver's door window. No one was injured.
It's thought the shot could have been fired from a shotgun.
Police don't have a description for the shooter, but want to hear from the public who saw the dark two-door sedan, possibly a Honda.
It wasn't a fruitless night for officers though - they managed to arrest a man nearby who was charged with unrelated offences.
