Wellington police have named the victim of the homicide in Upper Hutt as 30-year-old woman Lois Rita Tolley.

Police are looking for four men in their 20s after the attack, and are appealing for them to come forward.

These men were seen jogging in the vicinity of the incident around midnight on Saturday morning.

According to witnesses, one of the men was in a visibly distressed state as he left the property.

A scene examination has taken place at the victim's house, along with a post-mortem, with police confirming they are looking for a knife and a firearm used in the killing.

Police are now appealing for any further information, and are speaking with a number of witnesses.

Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee says descriptions of the suspects are vague, describing them as "all about 182cm tall and wearing dark clothing with hooded tops".

One of the men was seen carrying a long rectangular object.

Ms Tolley was the youngest of four siblings, and was part of a large family, including a number of nephews and nieces.
