Video has emerged of the moment Rotorua police shoot a machete wielding man.
In the footage, posted to the Kiwi Az Bro Facebook page, shots and sirens can be heard as the person who films the incident drives around a round-a-bout-near the police cordon.
The two men in the car were noticeably shocked when they realised exactly what was unfolding before them.
Witnesses say the man was holding a machete and did a haka in the middle of the road before he was shot.
Police said in a statement the man couldn't be stopped by Tasers, and was high on a substance - believed to be meth.
Police staff provided first aid at the scene until ambulance staff arrived and took the man to Rotorua Hospital. He was then flown to Waikato Hospital this evening in critical condition.
