A South African animal rights group is offering a reward for any information on the death of a young sea lion pup near Dunedin.

Staff from the Department of Conservation (DOC) found the remains of the 11 month-old female sea lion named Rua on a beach near Dunedin.

She had a bullet hole and a deep cut on her body.

South African group ‘The Seals of Nam’ have offered $1000 for any information leading to the killer’s conviction.

The group called the act “an unwarranted act of mindless cruelty”.
