An elderly convicted rapist has this morning pleaded guilty to taking intimate photos of a four-year-old girl while on parole.

Ronald Van Der Plaat, 78, appeared in the Waitakere District Court this morning where he was remanded in custody until March 19 for sentencing.

Van Der Plaat was released from prison in 2010 after serving 10 years of a 14-year sentence for sex crimes committed against his daughter over a 23-year incarceration period.

Conditions of his parole included not spending the night away from home and not having contact with anyone under the age of 16, other than with the supervision of an adult approved by a probation officer.

He was recalled to prison in September after he was spotted in Auckland with a child who he had allegedly taken on trips and to motels.

Security cameras at an unnamed museum captured Van Der Plaat walking hand-in-hand with a little girl.

He pleaded guilty to two further breaches; staying overnight at an Orewa motel on three occasions and having contact with a four-year-old girl at the motel on three occasions.

Van Der Plaat was originally jailed for crimes which included hanging his daughter from the ceiling by her ankles before abusing her, making her pregnant with a baby she later miscarried and raping her after giving her overdoses of drugs and alcohol.
