Name suppression has lifted for a Levin accountant accused of murdering a Wellington woman when he hit her with a car.

Mark David Stevens is charged with killing Delia Grace Williams on March 15.

The 55-year-old died in the Wellington suburb of Northland in the driveway of a house she was visiting.

Stevens, 58, pleaded not guilty to murder at his first appearance at the High Court in Wellington on Monday.

The defence had argued for name suppression to continue, but it was only granted until 4pm today. No appeal to keep it beyond that was made.

He also pleaded not guilty to one charge of driving with an excess breath alcohol level of 510 micrograms per litre of breath, and another of assault using a motor vehicle as a weapon.

He was remanded in custody until July 13.
