Suspected chemical spill at Palmerston North Hospital carpark

The carpark of Palmerston North Hospital has been cordoned off after a vehicle began leaking an unidentified substance.

Fire communications spokesperson Chris Dalton said everyone inside the hospital is okay, but several people who were in the carpark have been made sick by the substance. They're being treated by paramedics.

Emergency services are at the scene of the suspected chemical spill, and are working to identify the hazardous product.

It's believed the substance leaked from the back of a ute.

It's the second chemical incident in the country today – the Cadbury factory in Dunedin was evacuated earlier after an ammonia leak.
