Tarantino on writing 'The Hateful Eight'

The promise of a wintry Quentin Tarantino western is finally delivered on and it was a story percolating in the famed filmmaker's vivid imagination for quite some time

The director was in Auckland last night for the New Zealand premiere of his latest film The Hateful Eight and he says that he has loved the writing process on this film.

"One of the things that I like about writing, or in fact my entire process altogether, is I love the solitude of writing, and for such a long time, I am the only one who knows what this is," he said.

"I decide when I'm done, then I show it to the world. But I really like my writing and that carrot in front of my nose.

"As soon as I am done with this, the rest of the world will know how wonderful this piece of material is."

His own sense of self-worth is of course validated by the millions of Tarantino devotees around the world including the Academy, who have awarded him two Oscars for his screenplays, including one for Pulp Fiction.

One of that film's starring characters, Samuel L Jackson, is back in the saddle for The Hateful Eight, along with fellow regulars Kurt Russell and Tim Roth as a blood-soaked bullet-laden blizzard of lies and deception blows them all hither and beyond.

Caught up in that storm is another Tarantino favourite Zoe Bell, who was pleased she could bring her mentor back to Auckland.
