After nearly seven years with no apology for the controversial Urewera raids, Tuhoe looks set to get one from the Crown.

New Police Commissioner Mike Bush will visit eight Tuhoe properties in the next two weeks to personally apologise for police actions during the so-called terror raids of 2007, RadioLIVE is reporting. In August he will issue a full public apology.

Last year the Independent Police Conduct Authority ruled police acted unlawfully and unreasonably when they set up roadblocks and detained some locals in a raid which saw 17 people arrested.

Only four of those arrested were prosecuted, as the Supreme Court ruled some evidence inadmissible.

In March 2012 Tame Iti, Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara, Urs Signer and Emily Bailey were found guilty on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and restricted weapons.

Iti and Kemara were jailed for two-and-a-half years but Iti was granted parole. Signer and Bailey were given home detention.
