Aerial footage shows the full extent of Christchurch's one-in-100-year flood, with rivers spilling over into properties and drowning cars.
As many as 100 houses across the city are thought to have been affected by the floodwaters and the Government is offering a repair service as emergency workers struggle to keep up with the workload.
Christchurch City Council is warning residents the water could be contaminated and is urging people to avoid contact.
Most of the damage is in the suburbs of St Albans, Woolston, Avonside and New Brighton.
