We have just got in some incredible footage from the air of the devastation in central Christchurch.
In the pictures you can see smoke coming from buildings that are on fire, widespread liquefaction and emergency services trying to get people out of severely damaged buildings.
It is unknown how many people are still trapped in damaged buildings, not just in Christchurch but in all areas of Canterbury.
