Video footage has emerged of the moment a digger struck an Auckland motorway overbridge on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1:15pm and snarled up traffic on the Southern Motorway for hours.
In new footage circulating on social media, a CCTV camera shows the moment the digger, which was being transported on the back of a truck, smashed into the Penrose overbridge.
As the digger strikes, two cars can be seen in the left and right hand lane narrowly missing being caught up in the nasty smash.
It's a wonder the home commute was the only casualty on the day.
