Waimate man was facing sexual assault claims

The man whose body was discovered in a remote forestry block near Waimate at the weekend, had just been told he was facing allegations of sexual assault against a female.

Jason Frandi, 43, learned of the new complaint just days before he was found dead next to Czech republic backpacker Dagma or Dasha Pytlickova on Sunday in a remote forest area of the Waitaki Valley near Waimate.

Police say Pytlickova was the victim of a homicide.

It has emerged police were searching for Mr Frandi on Saturday about an alleged sexual complaint, although those involved had wanted to wait until what was seen as an appropriate time to speak to him, Fairfax reported.

"Unfortunately Mr Frandi became aware of it, on Saturday is our understanding, and police were indeed alerted,'' Assistant police commissioner Malcolm Burgess says.

The person who told police Mr Frandi knew of the complaint was concerned at what Mr Frandi might do, Mr Burgess said.

It's understood Pytlickova was hitch-hiking to Timaru when she was picked up by Frandi in the Waitaki valley on Saturday.

Frandi served three and a half years in jail for abducting a 19 year old from Oamaru in 2000.

Reports from that time say the victim was pushing her bicycle down the street when Mr Frandi forced her into his vehicle. He gave up while the woman was still struggling and let her out after driving about 150m.

He told police after that arrest that he planned to take the woman to a forestry block to rape her and then kill himself, something Mr Burgess said was "chilling".
