A man has been arrested and charged after a violent assault on a woman in the Auckland suburb of Mt Albert early on Wednesday morning.
The woman was walking along Mt Albert Rd at around 5am when a 31-year-old man allegedly attacked her and threatened her with a knife before fleeing.
"Police responded swiftly to the attack and one of our officers was able to quickly identify the offender based on information provided by the victim," says Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin.
He says the woman is being provided with support after the traumatising incident.
"He was apprehended soon after the attack, which is a great result and has provided the victim with some comfort."
The man will appear before Auckland District Court tomorrow on charges of abduction, assault with a weapon, sexual violation and robbery.
