It was "sheer luck" a woman attempting a burnout at a popular picnic spot in Tasman only hit another car and not any children nearby, police say.

The 19-year-old will likely face charges following the incident around 5pm yesterday in Lee Valley.

Constable Peter Jackson says witnesses reported the woman attempting the burnout while leaving the reserve when she lost control.

"The car she was in then careered across the carpark and hit a parked vehicle before going over a bank," he says.

The reserve was full of other cars and children at the time.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries though it is unclear whether they were from the crash because witnesses say she was involved in a fracas with a group after the incident.

Police are also waiting on the results of a blood alcohol test.
